Read + Review — The Young Elites, by Marie Lu

Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever, a deadly disease. But it has left her scarred, and society has deemed her worthless. Her abusive father was going to sell her off as a servant, but she escaped, and in the process, accidentally killed her father. Charged with murder, she would be executed, until a mysterious group of people called the Young Elites, who have special abilities, rescue her. Adelina discovers that she is a Young Elite, and she has the power to control illusions. Caught between loyalty and love, she has to make a choice, that can change the fate of the world.

The beginning was a little confusing, but I really enjoyed this book. It was action-packed and complex. I loved how Adelina had an internal struggle with herself, and wasn’t just a hero with an easy life. There was a great plot twist at the end. Overall, it kept me captivated and was a memorable read.

One thing that stayed with me after I read the book, was how cruel people could be towards people with physical flaws. Physical appearance doesn’t mean anything, it’s what’s on the inside that counts.

four stars
