Read + Review — I Totally Funniest: A Middle School Story by James Patterson

funniestAfter an amazing triumph in the semifinals, Jamie Grimm is heading to the national finals of the Planet’s Funniest Kid Comic Contest at Hollywood. Back at home, he is treated like a legend. Every single kid at his school is asking for his autograph. All of this attention is getting the best of Jamie and he has forgotten all about his true friends and family. In addition, the pressure of performing well is driving Jamie insane. He is even having nightmares of dying of stage fright on the stage. Finding out that he will be on National Television only makes matters worse. In order to become Planet’s Funniest Kid Comic, Jamie will need all the support he can get from his family and friends.

This book was very inspiring to me. I liked that it featured a crippled boy who persevered through hard times. Even though people teased and bullied him, he never gave up on becoming the funniest kid in the world. This book taught me to be confident and to never give up. The part I did not like was that the paparazzi never gave Jamie a break. They never let him spend time with his friends and family. He even struggled to go to the restroom without someone videotaping him.

One memorable part of the book was when Jamie apologized to his friends for being a jerk. I believe this was one of the turning points of the book. His friends finally decided to help him. This helped Jamie put his fame aside and start focusing on winning the contest.
