Read + Review — Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch

Snow like ashesSnow Like Ashes is a book about a warrior girl named Meira. The kingdom of Winter that she hails from was once a glorious kingdom. Then everything changed when the opposing kingdom of Spring attacked. Some Winterians were murdered, the city was destroyed and the surviving inhabitants of Winter were taken prisoner. Meira, Mather (the heir to the Winterian throne), Sir (the Winterian general), and some other minor characters managed to escape. This small band of refugees has to repair their conduit, their source of magic, so they can free all of the Winterians in the work camps. As the conflict rages on, Meira realizes she may be more important than she realizes.

Quite honestly, I think this is the best book I’ve ever read. It has a wonderful story about a girl wanting to restore her kingdom to its former glory. It also has a good balance between fighting and peaceful challenges that Meira must overcome. Winter is my favorite season, and to read about a kingdom named Winter where it is winter all year around was very enjoyable. I would recommend it to anyone because it was so good.

There were some plot twists that made me rethink how the story would turn out, and I liked that.
