Read + Review — The Rule of Thoughts (The Mortality Doctrine Series) by James Dashner

The Rule of Thoughts by James DashnerAfter the Path, Michael discovered he had been a Tangent, and his entire life had been fake. Now, he’s Jackson Porter.  Still trying to catch–and escape–Kaine, Michael creates a fake identity. Soon, he’s labeled as a cyber-terrorist, and he has nobody to turn to but his friends Sarah and Bryson. So he tracks down Sarah. While Michael is at Sarah’s house, Sarah’s parents get kidnapped. Sarah’s the prime suspect. Michael and Sarah have to find Bryson. “The Trifecta to Dissect-ya, the Burn-and-Pillage-y Trilogy” are on their own, and they need help. Who can they turn to?

This book is like a winding road, filled with twists and turns. Exciting from the very first page, it left me begging for more. Despite being slightly confusing, this book was very fun to read. The three main protagonists were all great coders and hackers, but they also had their distinguishing personalities. Bryson was the comedian, always cracking a joke. Sarah was the brains, as well as the calm, collected person who helped the group remain sane. Michael was the adventurous, think-outside-the-box person.

The most memorable part of the book was when Sarah’s parents were kidnapped. There was a noise, then Sarah and Michael went to investigate. Sarah’s parents were gone. They found a note held down by her dad’s gun. The note was a warning to Michael.
