Read + Review — Hollow City (Miss Peregrine Series #2) by Ransom Riggs

12396528In this second book in the series, the peculiar children find themselves forced to escape from their protected island home to save their guardian, Miss Peregrine. Jacob and his friends must use their strange powers to defend themselves from the creatures that hunt them down. They must dodge the perils of magical attacks, along with the perils of 1940s-era London, meeting all sorts of characters along the way. The young heroes work together in a thrilling, fast-paced adventure across Britain.

The book moves much more quickly than the first book in the series, and holds the readers attention throughout. You can’t help but root for the charming cast of characters and the strong bond of their team. The children’s voices feel very authentic, and make the book even more relatable. Overall, the combination of characters, plot, and the accompanying photographs makes for a wonderful and worthwhile read.

The vintage trick photographs that complement the text add to the strange and fantastic nature of the book. They illustrate the characters well, and do a lot to enhance the book as a whole.
