Rick Riordan takes a unique approach to his readers by telling twelve stories of Greek mythology from Percy Jackson’s perspective. This book is educational because it deeply tells the stories of legendary figures from Greek mythology. The stories of Perseus, Hercules, Psyche, Phaethon, Otrera, Daedalus, Theseus, Atalanta, Bellerophon, Cyrene, Orpheus, and Jason are described with many variations and twists to them so the reader will be very hooked. Percy’s humor makes this book very funny, so you will not be bored while reading stories that you might have already heard of. Many of the stories are about Greek heroes such as Hercules and Theseus killing monsters such as the Chimera and Medusa.
I read this book in one sitting because it was so good! I wanted to read this book very badly because I desired to read more Percy Jackson books after reading the Blood of Olympus. I especially liked reading the book’s large text and looking at the colorful illustrations. Reading this illustrated book brought back childhood memories of reading picture books! I loved how the tone of this book was filled with humor. The frequent humor in this book made it very entertaining, but it was just as educational as it was entertaining. This book contained many stories that I have never heard of such as the story of a fierce and strong huntress named Atalanta and the story of the rise of the Amazonians, a large group of female warriors. Even though I already knew many of the book’s stories beforehand, I still learned lots of new information involving Greek mythology after I read this book. Reading this book was very enjoyable because the stories had unexpected but fun variations in them. For example, the monsters and heroes were doing modern things such as watching television! One thing that I did not like about the book was the fact that the book is big and heavy! I could not read this book on the couch like a small novel. I had to read this book on a table like a textbook. Despite its bulkiness, I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read books written by Rick Riordan.
One memorable thing about the book was how it was both educational and entertaining. After reading the book, I knew a lot more Greek mythology.
