APPLICATIONS DUE JUNE 10: Teen Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program

Picture1Henrico County Library has teamed up with the Henrico Fire Division and the Henrico Office of Emergency Management to offer Teen CERT again this June. The Henrico County Teen Community Emergency Response Team Program (Teen CERT) trains teen citizens to help cope in the time period immediately following a disaster when local public safety resources may be overwhelmed. Teen CERTs learn basic first aid, search and rescue, and fire suppression techniques. But more importantly, Teen CERT members learn how to prepare for a disaster long before one occurs. We will prepare for and respond to a hypothetical emergency, such as a hurricane, mass casualty accident, or epidemic.

The one-week training consists of:

• Four training sessions at Libbie Mill Library, Monday, June 27 – Thursday, June 30, 9:30 AM — 3:00 PM.

• A four-hour scenario drill at Libbie Mill Library, Friday, July 1st, at a time to be announced.

Students must commit to attend ALL FOUR sessions AND the drill.

On successful completion each student will earn a total of 24 hours of community service. This course is limited to 15 high school students (grades 9–12, rising 9th graders accepted). Applications are due June 10. For more information contact Adrienne Minock, Teen Librarian at 290‑9400 x3 or aminock@henricolibrary.org.
