Summer Stories — Week 6 Winner

Congratulations to Divyansh S., grade 7, at Twin Hickory Area Library! Divyansh’s short story was randomly selected as this week’s Summer Stories Teen Writing Contest winner. Divyansh will receive a copy of Wreck This Journal by Keri Smith.

Week 6 Prompt:  It was a dark and stormy night….

Divyansh’s Winning Story:
It was a dark and stormy night, dark clouds coated the moon like coatings of paint on a wall. Rain pounded on us like a hammer on a nail. We were lost and hungry, trying to find our way back home. We hoped this rain would stop and the light of the moon would come to guide us the way, but it never did. In fact, it did the complete opposite, more layers of dark clouds covered the moon, and more rain pounded on our worn out bodies. In the distance we could see a house. The wood was torn and the windows were shattered. My friends and I were desperate for food, so we took a deep breath and entered the house.

There were shelves loaded with tons of dusty books. We could see that the chandelier light was still on. Dust covered the dining table, but there was still food in lying on the table. We started shoving the delicious food in our mouth without hearing footsteps from the stairs. When we saw the room’s light turn on we all froze. The last thing I remember after that were sounds of screams and howls from the night sky. I could no longer see my friends, and there was only one thing in my mind, RUN.

Don’t miss your chance to win! Submit your original story in response to this week’s prompt.
