Emani’s Winning Story:
I was on my way back from school. I hadn’t found Robyn. Her parents said she had gone out with Irene. Anger boiled up inside of me. Robyn had been going out with Irene instead of me. I had yelled at her. She had been giving me the silent treatment for weeks. I had come to apologize. We lived in a place with a lot of gangs. So I had to be careful. Just then I saw a golden bike.
“Hi!” I think it said. I stared.
“Well, don’t just stand there! WE’RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME! ROBYN IS BEING CHASED BY A GANG!” it cried. I hopped onto the bike. I rode like my life depended on it. Which Robyn’s did. I then saw Robyn standing in the alley. A group of boys were creeping up on her.
“ROBYN!” I screamed “GET ON!” Robyn obeyed and I rode off.
“What is it ?” Robyn said. I took a breath.
I said. “This may sound weird, but I think a bike just saved your life.”
