Everyone always says that turning 18 is one of the best times of your life, yet that could be far from true for Nora. Nora Lopez appears as your typical teenage girl on the outside, but her beauty and kind personality is not enough to overpower the fear pulsing through her body. It’s the year 1977, and New York City is an absolute mess. A killer is on the loose, targeting young, secluded couples at night. To make matters worse, Nora’s dad has completely isolated himself from her life, her mom is struggling to keep her job and pay the rent, and her brother, Hector, can’t seem to pull himself together. How will she be able to cope with all the drama that’s going on right now?
One of my favorite parts was when Nora met Pablo at the supermarket. Pablo was one of my favorite characters because, simply put, he was calm and collected. Everyone else’s life was in shambles, yet he was somehow able to remain under control and help out Nora when she was in trouble. I really appreciated how each chapter was short and concise, since it made the plotline a lot easier to understand. It’s amazing how Meg Medina is able to make each character’s personality vastly different, but they all seem to have one unifying goal: they just want to make themselves happy. Overall, this is by far one of my favorite books I have ever read!
Nora is such a headstrong female character, which is why I loved her so much. I wish I could be like Nora; she’s perfect in so many ways!
