Read + Review — The Bronze Key by Holly Black

bronzekeyNow that everyone thinks that Constantine Madden was killed, Call relaxed over the summer. But suddenly at a party in the Collegium, Call and his friends survive an assassination attempt while at the same time, a student suddenly dies. With determination to find the killer, Call, Tamara, Aaron, and Jasper all search for clues. But as they go deeper, more and more attempts for Call’s death are being made, and the identity of the assassin is slippery and unclear. Friendships are strained as Call and his friends try to find the answer to this shocking question; who is friend, and who is foe?

While the writing is not as intriguing as other books I’ve read, the plot totally makes up for it. Cassandra Clare and Holly Black have written a plot where everything falls into place and as always, an ending you won’t forget. I like Call’s loyalty, Tamara’s cleverness, Aaron’s goodness, and even Jasper’s smugness. It’s very well thought out and has plenty of details, which I like about a book. I definitely can’t wait for the next book in the series.

I’ve always liked magic because I thought it would be fun and an amazing experience. But in this book, magic is like a knife. A knife isn’t evil or good. It’s the person who wields the knife that decides how to use it.
