Read + Review — The Midnight Star by Marie Lu

midnight_starIt has been a year since Adelina Amouteru has taken her revenge on all those who have cheated and misguided her. Now she is the White Wolf, the ruler of Kenettra. Her goal is to conquer all the land there is to conquer and become the one and only ruler in the world. But in the midst of this conquest, Adelina’s powers slowly start to spiral out of control and the whispers only she can she hear get worse. When a new danger appears, Adelina must join forces with the people who betrayed her for the better good of the world.

The book was sort of a disappointment for me compared to the other books in the series. I was expecting more action and adventure like the two books before in the series but the end result is something that is similar to “Game of Thrones”. There is much more dilemma, drama, romance, and trickery than there was in the books before as well as politics. The series took a turn from being a action/adventure series into a political/drama series. The characters in this book were really interesting because many of their thought patterns and how they saw things changed from the last book. There have been many changes in characters, but the one I like most is Adelina’s. She took a darker turn and became a person who rules with fear, unlike in the previous books where she had an open heart and treated many people with kindness. This adds more excitement to the book to see what choices she will make, and how they would be different if she hadn’t changed.

The only thing I really liked in this book was the characters. Most of them took drastic changes in this book, like Adelina who has turned into a person who likes to see fear in people which produced a different type of feeling around her than before. It felt exciting to see how each character changed and see how saw things differently now and options they took.
