This book takes place in 1781 during the Revolutionary War. In this major war, four African Americans are caught in the acts of the Revolutionary War. The main protagonists in this book, Isabel Gardener, along with Curzon Smith, try to find Isabel’s sister, Ruth, and to find freedom in the North. After months of escaping the Continental and the British army, Isabel and Curzon find Isabel’s long-lost sister, Ruth, along with her friend Aberdeen. After finding Ruth and her friend, Isabel and Curzon continue their journey northward to find freedom.
In my opinion, this book was the best out of the other two books in the series. Throughout the book, there were many action-packed scenes, cliffhangers, and more. I liked reading this book with more knowledge and thrill building up inside of me every time a chapter started and ended. There was nothing I disliked about this book, as this book showed signs of an ideal war story. Even though this book is fictional, the book still told me about the troubles and the obstacles that African-American slaves had to go through in order to achieve freedom.
The most memorable part of the book for me was when Isabel, along with the others, were traveling in the wild. There were many things that could’ve happened to them in the wild. I could not stop thinking about what would happen to them, so I couldn’t put the book down! This book was one of the best books that I’ve ever read, and I’m sure a lot of other people will love this book as well.
