This book is about a girl named Sefia. She lived a dark life, with her mother’s death and her father’s murder. Sefia lives on the run with her aunt Nin, who is the only person she will trust. But Sefia has a secret. She lives in a world where no one can read or write, except for a select few. She is one of those people. Her parents gave her an object called a book, and she was left to figure out what a book was. When her aunt Nin is kidnapped, Sefia and Archer, a boy that she had saved, have to use what they can to figure out who took aunt Nin, and why they want Sefia.
I think the book was an amazing story. I love how different chapters were sometimes narrated by different people, and how Sefia has to learn new things about the world and about herself. I like how many plot twists were in the book, and how those plot twists caused Sefia to look at good and evil differently. To put it simply, this book was exciting and thrilling, and I cannot wait until the next book in the series comes out.
One memorable thing from this book was Sefia’s book itself. Sefia was given a book from her parents, and that one book is extremely important to society. I enjoyed reading about how Sefia slowly learnt how to read, and also how she eventually learnt to write, too.
