The book was about a girl that was granted a power to control fire. The main character’s name in Maia Finley. The setting goes around the world a bit because the organization the girls work for is an international organization but the setting is mainly in London, Paris, and New York. The plot is that an Effigy that controls fire dies and the a new Effigy for fire is selected, the main character, and she has to fight with three other girls that have powers that are earth, air, and water. They have to protect the world from phantoms which are similar to ghost-like monsters. The Effigy girls work for an organization with trained soldiers that fight the phantoms and create buildings to protect the city. There are four girls that have powers to save the world or are there only four girls that have the powers to save world?
I thought that the book was the Kane Chronicles series by Rick Riordan. I liked the situations of the book and the combat in the book when the Effigy girls were fighting phantoms. The characters were also given very good characteristics. I am not a huge fan about the writing style because it has a couple of cuss words in the book and I really dislike that. I would have closed the book when I read the first cuss word; but, the plot and the situation of the book made me ignore the cuss word and continue with the book. The “tone” of the book was mainly seriousness and the book lacked humor.
One memorable thing in the book is when Maia Finley first uses her powers to save her life. The book had a very suspenseful situation and the story after the world found out about her powers.
