The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan is the first book of The Trials of Apollo series which is a sequel to The Heroes of Olympus also by Rick Riordan. In the book, Apollo, one of the Olympians, is punished by Zeus for almost having the human civilization destroyed. Zeus has punished Apollo by taking away his godly powers and immortality. To become a god again, Apollo must go through many trials (hence the title: Trials of Apollo) and serve a demigod, Meg McCaffrey.
What I liked about the book was that the author was able to mix the ancient Greek mythology with modern America. Additionally, I like how the humor made the nonfiction part of the book fun and enjoyable. Also, at the end of the book, the author put a little glossary for backup information. However, I disliked how the author added a small poem about a small part of the chapter at the beginning of each chapter. I found this distracting and confusing.
What I found memorable about this book is that is from a god’s point of view. However, in this case it is a god who is now a mortal human in the human world. I have never read a book with this plot which is why this plot is interesting.
