Bruiser by Neal Shusterman

Brewster, aka Bruiser is a hulking loner who was unofficially voted “most likely to go to jail” until Bronte decides she wants to get to know him.  Her twin brother Tennyson threatens Bruiser to stay away from his sister.  They both find out that Bruiser is not what he seems–from his scarred body, to his deeply caring nature, to his strange ability to take on the psychic and physical wounds of others as his own.  Bruiser becomes more and more sympathetic as you read more about who he is and his strange abilities.  Can a book be creepily compelling and sweet at the same time?  Pat the Librarian
