This is the last writing prompt of the contest! In one week, write a story no more than 250 words long using the provided prompt as your inspiration. Week 7 Prompt:
It’s your character’s first day at a new school. He or she wants to get a fresh start, develop a new identity. But in his or her homeroom, your character encounters someone he or she knows from summer camp.

Jikai’s Winning Story:
“It wasn’t one of those things you wish never, ever happened,” Alyssa said.

“What do you mean? I would totally want to be in your shoes. A first kiss? At summer camp? Sign me up!” Jamie disagreed.

“Come on, it was one of the grossest experiences of my life!” Alyssa retorted.

Out of the corner of her eye, she sees a boy, and not any boy- the boy. The boy she kissed was here at Staunton High with her and she still didn’t know his name. She was sure he told her at one point, but she forgot and it was all strange to her that he was in her school, in the flesh, sporting a very unattractive hairdo.

“Is that him?” Jamie asks Alyssa, whose shocked expression confirmed yes.

“What am I going to do? He’s here? And his hair cut?” Alyssa fake vomited and she grabbed Jamie’s hand and took her to the nearest girls’ restroom.

Once they were in the bathroom, Jamie came up with a definitive plan, “This is what you’re going to do. He probably forgot all about you and won’t bring it up. Then, you will accidently forget everything too and you will not talk to him, because if he sees you and he remembers, literally, the whole school will make you guys an item. In the chance that he does remember, you ask him his name and carry on. Keep calm and carry on. I repeat, keep calm and carry on.”

Week 6 Prompt:
A campfire, a scream, and a small lie that gets bigger and bigger.

Katie’s Winning Story:
ʺDid you hear that?ʺ Jessica said suddenly looking up with wide eyes. ʺI swear something moved.ʺ

The ten of us were gathered around the fire roasting marshmallows.

“Are you sure? I don’t see anything.” Elaine said looking at her suspiciously.

“Of course.” Jessica said, annoyed. “Some monster is out there.”

The other campers looked at each other uneasily. I gave Jessica a questioning look. I hadn’t seen or heard anything. She winked at me. I hate it when she lies like this. But not everyone was fooled. The two boys sitting next to me were still looking at her with disbelief. One of them glanced at Elaine then stood up.

“I’m going to check it out.” David said, his voice determined.

Two minutes after he left a scream pierced the air. My eyes shot towards Jessica’s. She looked back at me, bewildered and alarmed. She didn’t know the source of the scream either.

“The monster probably ate him!” Jessica said. However apparently she wasn’t afraid to take advantage of it.

“Do you think it really was the thing you heard?” Elaine said, frightened. “Someone call a counselor!”

“Wait!” Jessica said nervously. “I mean we don’t really need to get a counselor right? I mean I was just kidding.”

Elaine narrowed her eyes. “You mean to say you were lying?” Jessica squirmed in her seat.

“Fine! I lied.” She admitted. Elaine smirked. David came out of the trees.

“Got ya!” David said laughing. The night ended with laughter all around.
