This book was a about an orphan named William Henry Lane living in a poor town in New York call where mostly Irish immigrants and African American people live. Because of these cultures, there are many different traditions and in this case dance moves. Master Juba is the orphan and he lives with 2 people in Five Points New York. Juba works at the docks selling fish and oysters to rich people and that is basically his living.
Juba! is a fun book to read. There is a lot of suspense and it’s a book that you don’t really want to put down. There is also emotion and parts of the book when you get surprised. It’s almost like multiple book genres put into one. This is most definitely a book I would recommend to read.
The most memorable thing in this book is the imagery created when reading this book. I loved the words Walter used to describe certain moments in this book.
